Begin Argumentative Writing Unit: 1. Read Example Essay (what do students notice - purpose, evidence, organization). 2. Terminology Sheet - go over them in class. Homework: Use the terminology sheet to identify/label each part of the example essay (claim, evidence, bridge/warrant, counter-argument, rebuttal/refutation, and audience). Wednesday - Feb. 8 Finish Speak movie. No Homework. Thursday - Feb. 9 Organization of Argumentative Essay: 1. Take Cornell notes: EQ - How do I organize an Argumentative Essay? 2. Revisit example essay. Identify each paragraph. Homework: identify each paragraph in the example essay, if not done in class. Friday - Feb. 10 Writing Essay Intros: 1. Take Cornell notes: EQ - How do I write an introductory paragraph for an argumentative essay? Monday - Feb. 13 1. Cornell Notes - Body Paragraphs 1 and 2. EQ - How do I write body paragraphs to support my claim? 2. Citing Textual Evidence. Tuesday - Feb. 14 1. Cornell Notes - Body Paragraph 3. EQ - How/why do I include the other side of an argument in my essay? Homework: Bring a book tomorrow (novel to read). Wednesday - Feb. 15 1. Notes check (have your notebook with you!) 2. Argument writing prompt. 3. Silent reading time. Thursday - Feb. 16 1. Cornell Notes: Conclusion Paragraph. EQ - How do I write an effective concluding paragraph for my argumentative essay? Friday - Feb. 17 1. Star Test
